Uruguay (Home 2014-15)

As fate would have it, we stay in South America and have a look at Uruguay. While the golden generation may have reached its peak, the venue of this year’s World Cup bodes well for the Urus. The last time a World Cup was played in Brazil, Uruguay won in a shocker. And the team still has enough firepower to be a threat to almost any team. But their group is also a threat and will test the resilience of the celeste very early on.

With Puma also being the supplier, the jersey’s layout is quite similar to the Chilean home jersey, but this time in sky blue with golden accents. The latter are left for the stripes and the Puma cats. The patches on the sleeves are white with blue stripes mimicking the Uruguayan flag. The collar is of similar shape as Chile, but instead of a shirt collar it is a standing collar in gold/blue/white. With the teardrop shaped front not being filled it looks more open. While black does not feature in the shirts accents it is used for the centered front number.

The back is simple with only a small Uruguay flag below the collar and the names and numbers applied in black in the new Puma style.

Likelihood of being featured: 100%
vs. Costa Rica: 99% (Should be 100%, but I leave 1% just to allow for some error)
vs. England: 99% (Same as above)
vs. Italy: 25%

This one is actually more colorful than the 2012 and 2013 versions thanks to the (subtle) inclusion of gold. However, it doesn’t really make it a worse jersey as is often the case. In fact, the golden accents were also present at the last World Cup. The collar is quite wide and made for thick necks. 😉 But this one pretty much goes the way of the Chile home jersey.

My rating: 7/10 stars.
