SSC Napoli (Home 2013/14)

Let’s stay in Serie A for one more team: the giants of the South, Napoli. With finishing as runner-up last season and a very unlucky exit from the Champions League (12 points were not enough!), things are still looking good for one of the best supported in Italy, despite losing coach Walter Mazzarri and iconic striker Edinson Cavani. Here is hoping that the team will remain one of the main forces in Italy.

Like last season, the home jersey was delivered by Macron in the traditional sky blue and it looks very similar in many ways. Most strikingly, the collar looks more symmetric this time around with white bands on the sides creating some accent to the otherwise blue round collar. Other than that, the absence of white accents is what sets this shirt apart from the previous version. Still, the double sponsors (in “crazy” colors) are a bit of an eyesore and still make the Macron logo and the crest ride too high on the jersey, but it does look a bit better than last year.

The back is plain blue. We note that the white bands on the collar are not extending all the way around the neck and that the gap is accented with a circled white N just beneath it. Names and numbers are applied in white with grey accents for the numbers creating an odd looking 3D-effect. While I like the simple style for the name, the numbers look a bit ridiculous. Especially, since the club’s crest on them is not adjusted to the suggested 3D-perspective.

Overall, a better jersey than last year, but still things don’t look perfect. I wish the two white bands on the collar were removed and the sponsors were a bit lower. Also the numbers could lose the 3D effect. It would have been better to retain last year’s font.

My rating: 7/10 stars.
