FC Bayern München (Away 2014/15)

After a longish break, I am back at writing posts. In a way I need to catch up fast as the season is winding down and to be honest, I haven’t covered too many shirts. Well, I probably will only get to some remarkable ones this season and hopefully will have a better posting rate next season.

So, Bayern was rather overwhelmed with Barcelona’s MSN attack. They may lament the 3-0 scoreline in their oppnent’s favor and especially the way it happened, but it was actually well deserved. So much so, that yesterday’s game (a 3-2 win) only was exciting for about 7 minutes. The toll of injuries to three key players (Alaba, Ribery and Robben) was simply too large. In that sens it was a turnaround from two seasons ago, when Barcelona was struggling with injury and was annihilated by a Bayern team running riot. The great perversity is that (similar to PSG), Bayern will register this season more as a disappointment than a successful season despite winning the championship by a mile. I will never understand that! One last note, before we look at the jersey: Maybe if you don’t assemble a squad that is towering above everyne else, you wil be forced to stay comeptitive for much longer and well into the latter stages of the Champions League. WIth that, we look at the jersey in which Bayern lost in Barcelona, but also routed Roma on their home ground.

Bayern away jerseys for the Bundesliga have traditionally been white with some red accents. All in all this is what we have here, although the shade of red is a tad too dark for my taste. Red is used for the crew collar, the htree stripes and the sleeve cuffs, as well as a horizontal bar running across the chest encompassing the Adidas logo and . So far so god and if it had stayed that way, I guess I would have been satisfied. But how about adding the colors of you main rival (well, they are plaing a division below now) on your jersey? Yes, I know these are also the Bavarian colors and the home jersey features plenty of blue, but it still does not look right to me. So, the black sponsor is framed by another bar in blue. On the bottom there is also a grey section making things more colorful (or not?).

The back features more red as names and numbers are applied in the dark red tone. Of course, the blue is also featured in form of the blue arc and taping on the sides (barely visible).

Well, on a FB page on soccer I ruffled some feathers when I discredited a positive post on this jersey. I agree it does not look super ugly, but it totally betrays the club’s colors: the red is too dark, blue is the color of the city rival and the use of grey is odd. It also speaks volumes about the passion of Bayern fans as (unlike Inter’s 2012/13 away jersey) this jersey was largely accepted. To summarize: design OKish, colors: NEXT!

My rating: 4/10 stars.
