Fenerbahçe SK (Away 2012/13)

Benfica‘s opponents for a berth in the Europa league final are Turkish giants Fenerbahçe. Realizing that my post on their current home kit is one of my most popular ones, I should be damned to not write about their away jersey which will most likely be worn tomorrow in Lisbon.

Unsurprisingly, the current Fenerbahçe away jersey is white – a frequently used color choice. However, this season, Adidas refrains from using a pure white jersey in favor of a dark blue upper third which is lined by a thin yellow stripe. Definitely a reference to the club’s colors, but not a very subtle one. The three stripes are also in yellow on the dark blue top portion, but the shirt then features a white V-neck collar with a thin dark blue stripe. As mentioned for the home jersey, the club has a Turkish roundel on the left side, while the club’s crest is on the right. Again, to me seeing the club crest on the left side is odd. The sleeves start out dark blue but are mainly white. The sponsor is nicely placed.

Fenerbahce-2012-away

I do like the colors on the shirt, but I find the design very crude and not particularly appealing. It looks like the top has been tipped into a dark blue color pot. The design looks most awkward at the sleeves. Also, why have a dark blue top, but the collar in white? It just looks too odd to me. It could have been much better if the horizontal yellow stripe was doubled with a dark blue one and the three stripes on the shoulders were held in yellow and dark blue. Lastly, the designs becomes really odd, since the (sponsor-laden) back is all white. I think Fenerbahçe deserves a better looking away kit.

My rating: 4/10 stars.
